The coolest thing about walking around this week and seeing 2 out of 5 people wearing Coachella wristbands is knowing that after next weekend there will be twice as many. If you’re about to strap on that wristband yourself and begin the best weekend of your life, chances are as an OE reader you’re probably curious as to who to see or at least what to expect from the Sahara Tent. After thinking about all of the EDM performances last weekend at Coachella, one thing is clear: the best artists were the ones who could be carried by their own productions. Reviewing their performances, however, is also a matter of the energy they brought and their effect on the crowd. Of those artists I saw, this review includes the ones who delivered the most.
All artists are in the Sahara Tent unless stated otherwise. I regret not being able to see Datsik, Afrojack, Breakbot, and Zed’s Dead. So if you are able to, go check them out.

Friday 3:50-4:50 - SebastiAn
SebastiAn threw down…kind of. All of the songs he selected were great and had the crowd in a frenzy- however, there were more than a few dead spots in the set as a whole because his transitions were, well…bad. I would definitely recommend seeing him, but I would also recommend he get some DJ lessons so his live shows can really blow us away.

Friday 5:10-6:10 - Feed Me
There was a whole lot more Dubstep than I expected from Feed Me in his Coachella Set, which was fine with me. Live teeth or no live teeth, this should definitely be a stop on your Friday excursion. Jimmy Cliff can wait. Yeah, I said that.
♫ Feed Me – One Click Headshot

♫ Feed Me – Strange Behaviour feat. Tasha Baxter

Friday 6:35-7:35 - Madeon
This was my favorite set of Friday. Madeon throws down with a hard complextro set featuring all of his hits and a whole lot more. Not to mention that his visual show is very impressive for a relatively new DJ.
♫ Martin Solveig – The Night Out (Madeon Remix)

Friday 11:30 - 1:00, Main Stage - Swedish House Mafia
**ALERT: Swedish House Mafia and Sebastian Ingrosso (Saturday) play the exact same set, to the letter, in the same order. You should really only see one or the other.**
A visual show from Swedish House Mafia is indeed something you must experience once in your life- from the theatrical intro to the rain of lazers that seem like they may truly destroy us, the Swedes know how to put on a show. That said, If you have seen them before, I wouldn’t see them a second time, theres nothing really new. Do what I would have and go check out Datsik, he has a whole new album and more new tracks in his set on top of that.
♫ Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound

♫ Nicki & the Dove - Mother Protect (Swedish House Mafia Bootleg)

I chatted with reigning indie rock queen Caroline Polacheck of Brooklyn’s dreamy psychedelic pop group, Chairlift, for ELLE.com. BTW, I’m OBSESSED with their dance floor-ready sophomore album, SOMETHING. So good. READ MORE
Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance on lead guitar and occasional vocals during Alejandro Escovedo’s closing set at the 30th annual Austin Music Awards, at the Austin Music Hall last night, kicking off the rocker’s SXSW blitz a day early. Rolling Stone’s David Fricke was on hand, and says that Springsteen traded off leads and played some impressive “dirty-metal lead-guitar breaks.”
Traffic around downtown is bad and getting worse, especially with people heading toward Auditorium Shores to catch the free SXSW show with The Shins.
Here’s a map of road closures.
